Andrew Tjaardstra is editor of Professional Broking magazine, the management magazine for insurance brokers published by Incisive Media and which is a sister title to Post and Insurance Age. He has chaired the PB Management Event for the last two years and recently chaired the inaugural UK Broker Summit. Andrew has met brokers across the UK and is well known in the insurance broking profession and the insurance community. Andrew joined Incisive Media on a graduate training program in September 2004 and has previously been senior reporter and deputy editor at Professional Broking.

STARR TECH - A member of Starr Companies

Stuart has worked in the insurance industry for 29 years, having spent time in the UK, Caribbean, USA and 18 of the last 20 years in South East Asia, specifically Thailand, Indonesia and Singapore. He holds both ACII and FCILA qualifications.

The majority of his career was spent in claims, with a major international loss adjusting company, where he held several positions, including Main Board Director, Managing Director in both Indonesia and Thailand, and subsequently became the Regional Director for South East Asia & the Indian Sub-Continent as well as the Global Head of the Power Practice.

Stuart was also heavily involved in the project management of some of the world's worst catastrophe's including the World Trade Center attacks and other terrorist related incidents as well as natural disasters including the 2004 tsunami in Indonesia and Thailand and the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami in Japan.

He moved to his currently role with Starr Insurance in March 2014 where he utilises his claims experience in the management of all onshore and offshore large technical claims in the Asia Pacific region.

Managing Director

Rudolf Frei has had over 20 years of experience in the insurance industry, having occupied management and executive positions at Secura, AXA, KPMG, JLT and Swiss Re across Europe and Greater China.

Rudolf founded the IBNR franchise in 2009 to provide best-in-class management consulting solutions to progressive clients across Asia.

His expertise covers claims and legal, claims and risk management, technical training, executive coaching, insurance operations, service delivery, customer orientation programs and management consulting.

Rudolf has also had hands-on experience re-engineering insurance operations across Asia, boosting sales performance and market entrance of specialist insurance providers and upgrading leadership skills of middle to senior management teams.

He is currently managing director and principal consultant at IBNR where his focus is on helping clients to achieve sustainable advantages in the market by using strategic differentiation, innovation and quality improvement management methods.

Chief Claims Officer

As Chief Claims Officer for Global Corporate, Asia Pacific Derek's role involves the provision of strategic, technical and market facing leadership, direction, coordination and support across all lines of business. This includes the technical management or oversight of large losses, attritional losses, case reserving & exposure management, provision of financial Authority, technical talent development and training, industry representation and the implementation of best practices across all APAC Countries.

Undertaking a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Economics he commenced my insurance career in 1996 with Zurich Australia in the area of motor vehicle injury claims and from there held numerous claims roles across major lines of business. In 2002 Derek left Zurich to assume a role with Reinsurance Australia Corp, and later as part of the same Group, for start up Insurer, Calliden. From there he went into the New Zealand insurance market to the position of National Claims Manager for Tower Insurance, the second largest domestic insurer in NZ.

Derek returned to Zurich in 2007 as part of the management team setting up the Zurich New Zealand operations and then re-joined the Australian business in 2009 where he held senior claims management roles across several major business lines with responsibility for Australia and NZ. Prior to his current role Derek was regional head of Property and Nat Cat claims for Zurich in Asia.

Graduated in Civil Engineering from the National University of Singapore. He has 25 years of experience in loss adjusting and handling construction, power and engineering claims before joining AGCS Claims Department in 2009 and is presently in charge of claims in Asia.

Senior Vice-President, Head of Claims, Singapore & Asia, Marsh Global Claims Practice

Graham has over 30 years of claims handling experience as a loss adjuster and as a broker. He joined Marsh from Hong Kong, where he was the Director of Claims Services at a major international broker.

Graham previously held various claims and claims-related roles in Asia, the Middle East, Europe and the Caribbean. This includes time spent in Hong Kong, Taipei, Singapore, Dubai, UK and Barbados.

Graham has particular experience with construction, engineering and property losses on major infrastructure projects, as well as catastrophe claims situations including Taiwan earthquakes, Hong Kong typhoons and Caribbean hurricanes.

Graham has a history of successful claims resolution whilst holding senior positions with international loss adjusters and a major insurance broker.


Simon Chung Hao Sheng [Click to view profile]
Vice President, Head P&C Claims China, Business Management Asia

Simon Sheng joined Swiss Re in 1996 as a management trainee in Zurich. After two years working in both treaty and facultative underwriting, Simon moved to Swiss Re Taipei to be a Casualty Underwriter.

Since 2002, Simon started working in the claims team and was responsible for claims arising from Taiwan business. In 2009, Simon was relocated to China as a Claims Manager, handling claims from across the Greater China region. Simon currently is heading the China P&C Claims operation, and part of the local management team.

In addition to claims management, Simon's role also includes supporting other P&C Business Management functions, such as Technical Accounting, Reinsurance Liability Management and Reserving.

Over the years, Simon has built up expertise in managing large and complex property damage claims, as well as claims from export product liability in the US. He also provides various client trainings and speaks for industry bodies on claims management related topics, including managing claims from metro projects, semiconductor industry, Natural Catastrophe, export product liability, as well as claims operation.

Head of Claims Asia

Neil joined Willis in March 2002 after having worked for Jenner Fenton Slade and subsequently Aon for 20 years. His responsibilities include managing large and contentious claims in the Energy, Power and Mining sectors as well as major industrial Construction projects in the course of which he has travelled extensively throughout the world.

Neil currently heads the Energy, Property and casualty Claims team where he is responsible for supporting Clients through the claims process and particularly on those claims which may present difficulties in resolution.

Neil has particular responsibility for Asia and is a frequent visitor to the region in support of Willis Clients.

Neil has spoken at conferences and Lectured on Insurance topics in numerous countries on four continents.

Director of Claims Services

Evelyn has over 15 years' claims handling experience with most of this time in solicitors practice specialising in insurance in Barlow Lyde & Gilbert, advising clients on dispute resolution of general and specialist lines of insurance (public liability, Employees Compensation, professional indemnity, D&O, financial lines).

She was panel solicitor on the Professional Indemnity Scheme of the Law Society of Hong Kong (PIS) and the Licence Holder Scheme for HKEX participants. Her work included claims management for corporate/quasi governmental clients from the airport sector and the group companies of a client with extensive supermarket & retail presence in Hong Kong. In August 2008, Evelyn joined Aon in a dual role as Legal Officer in Aon's subsidiary handling PIS claims against solicitors and as Aon corporate litigation counsel.

Her role was expanded to Regional Claims Specialist for Aon's Financial Services and Professions Group, providing claims management and claims advocacy services to Aon's key strategic clients in the Asian region. Evelyn took up the role of Director of Claims Services in September 2012 and oversees the Aon Hong Kong Claims Department's handling of claims across a broad range of industries. Evelyn's experience extends to providing advice on disclosure requirements, wording of insurance policies, position papers, claims arising from Errors & Omissions, disputes between insureds and their insurers and risk management issues.
